| Acupuncture |
| |
Imbalances in the natural flow of energy through the body can be treated using acupuncture, which involves the use of almost hair-thin needles placed in particular points on the body along “meridians” or energy channels.
Acupuncture is very relaxing and has been shown to be beneficial for a wide range of systems including the respiratory, immune, digestive, endocrine, nervous, circulatory and gynecological systems. It has been used to successfully treat a wide range of reproductive and women's health problems including menstrual disorders, infertility, common complaints of pregnancy and the post-partum period. |
| chinese herbal medicine |
| |
You may be surprised to find out that there are many pharmaceutical products that are made using extracts from Chinese Herbs. Chinese herbal medicine is a well developed system of medicine and it's success lies in it's ability to treat each person individually and to treat the root cause as well as the manifestations.
To give an example, you may have 5 people who all have insomnia and they will all receive 5 different treatments. Or you may have 5 people all coming with different complaints who receive very similar treatments. This is because Chinese medicine looks at your whole pattern, and subtle differences (for example having trouble falling asleep vs getting to sleep OK but waking frequently in the night) are important.
Chinese herbs are a good way to restore balance to your body if you live rurally or are unable to come for acupuncture treatment. Phone consultations may be an option for your case, please contact Heather to find out if this would be suitable for you. |
| tuina |
| |
Chinese Remedial Massage is used within an acupuncture treatment or on it's own to help restore balance in the body. It can help to break up blockages and move “Qi” and blood around the body and restore the natural flow.
Tuina can be used to help fertility by encouraging blood flow to the reproductive organs (in women and men) and in pregnancy to ease back pain and encourage pelvic opening in preparation for birth. |
| moxabustion |
| |
Mugwort is a Chinese herb that is burned in various ways to warm the meridians of the body and move blockages. It can be used to warm acupuncture needles, and commonly comes as a stick that you and your partner can be taught to use at home. It's most well known use in women's health is for use to turn breech babies, however it's value as a therapeutic tool is extensive. |
| acupressure |
| |
Acupressure involves the use of pressure at specific acupuncture points. Very similar to acupuncture, but as there are no needles involved it can be taught to anyone (including your partner!).
It can be used for many conditions and can be particularly useful for nausea in pregnancy and for use in to help manage labour, ripen the cervix and strengthen contractions. |
